Hornbeam — block

Carpinus betulus trained as a block creates a green backdrop with an even outline. It suits boundaries, rows and geometric gardens. Leaves change colour in autumn; some dry foliage may remain, but winter density differs from summer.

Allow enough room for the mature tree's crown and roots. Choose deep, well-drained soil and water regularly during establishment. Formative pruning should suit the species and the age of the specimen.
