Hydrangea — standard

A clear-stemmed hydrangea lifts its flower heads above a border, creating a small tree-like accent. It can frame a path or feature in a terrace container. Flower colour, crown size and pruning needs depend on the cultivar of the chosen specimen.

Choose gentle sun or partial shade and fertile, moderately moist soil. Check that the stem is stable and monitor watering in hot weather. Confirm the pruning method for the cultivar: not all hydrangeas are pruned alike.
