Saucer magnolia

Magnolia × soulangeana flowers in spring before its leaves emerge, producing large cup-shaped blooms. Pink, white and purple shades vary between specimens. The crown spreads with age, so allow space even when buying a small plant.

Plant in sun or partial shade in a sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil. Maintain moisture during establishment. Mulch without covering the base of the trunk. Avoid heavy pruning; late frosts can damage flowers.
