Bergenia forms clumps of broad, thick leaves that add texture to borders. Flowers appear in spring, while the foliage may turn reddish in cold weather. Suitable for groups beside fine-leaved plants; flower colour depends on the cultivar.

Choose gentle sun or partial shade and well-drained soil. Water after planting and during dry periods. Remove damaged leaves and spent flower stems while retaining healthy foliage.
